A Nanotechnologies and Food Inquiry has started in the UK

The House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology launched an inquiry into Nanotechnologies and Food on 3 February 2009, which will be conducted by Sub-Committee I. The inquiry will investigate the use of nanotechnologies and nanomaterials in the food sector. A public Nanotechnologies and Food Call for Evidence has been published which details the topics the Committee will be investigating. The deadline for written evidence submissions has been fixed at Friday 13 March 2009.
The Committee intends to focus on the following areas: food products, additives and supplements; food contact packaging; food manufacturing processes; animal feed; pesticides and fertilisers; and products that may come into contact with food, such as food containers and cooking utensils.
In the call for evidence, questions are asked about: the state of the science and its current use in the food sector, health and safety, and the public engagement and consumer information.
